Analysis

The cultural connections between lynching and American history, especially black history, are impossible to ignore. Lynching culture began hundreds of years ago, transforming greatly over time but never quite ending. The various facets that play into lynching have helped perpetuate this system into modern day society under its new name: capital punishment. The primary utilization of the black body during lynching has continued a system of unlawful and unequal criminalization that have rooted themselves amongst every culture as stereotypes but stretch much further beyond just the stigma associated with a name. With the continuation of this system, there is a perpetuation of social death playing into all these factors.
